Lisa Burns, co-owns Backyard Getaway with her husband Dave, a local outdoor living service business. In addition to her work at Backyard Getaway Lisa is a contributing writer for LiveLocal! magazine and has articles published in Sarasota Pet Magazine, LiveLocal! Magazine, Florida Creative Living Magazine RFD-TV Magazine, LS1 Magazine and WQ Magazine as well as on various online blogs such as bradenton.patch.com. Backyard Getaway's water features have been twice featured in Water Garden News & in Country Decorating's yearly Water Gardens Magazine. Backyard Getaway is the proud recipient of the *2013-2014 Outstanding Innovative Project of the Year award from the Sarasota County School District Volunteer & Partnership Program for their Colorfalls Water Feature at Lakeview Elementary, the 2014 Best of Houzz Customer Service Award, the 2012 Mojo Best of Landscaping award and the 2011 Business/Education Partnership award for their donated water feature and wildlife habitat at Haile Middle school. They are also a business partner in the Be Floridian Campaign created by the Tampa Bay Estuary Program. As part of the campaign Lisa is one of 25 artists who has painted a plastic flamingo for a traveling exhibit called “The art of being Floridian.” Lisa & her husband and business partner Dave Burns' interest in water gardening and outdoor living grew from a hobby into a passion over 15 years ago when Dave installed their first pond. In addition they both enjoy creating useful and decorative yard art from re-purposed items.
